Gran Hotel Taoro
Historic icon of luxury tourism in Tenerife since 1890
THE HISTORIC LEGACY OF GRAN HOTEL TAORO
SPAIN’S FIRST LUXURY GRAND HOTEL

Since 1890, Gran Hotel Taoro has been standing as a symbol of magnificence and refinement. Acknowledged as Spain’s first luxury grand hotel, it was a favourite destination for monarchs and aristocrats like the Duke of Kent King Alfonso XIII, as well as creative geniuses like Agatha Christie, who immortalised her stay in her writings.

In 2025, this historic icon is reborn after a restoration that maintains the original neoclassical architecture, honouring its glorious past and enveloping it in contemporary refinement.

We invite you to discover our luxury urban resort in Tenerife, where history and luxury are harmoniously intertwined.

TRIBUTE TO CANARY ISLAND HISTORIC HERITAGE

Gran Hotel Taoro is an embodiment of history and refinement, an emotional and cultural heritage deeply rooted in Tenerife. Its name, “Taoro”, resonates with the ancient grandeur of Tenerife’s most powerful menceyato (aboriginal kingdom) during the 15th century, which spanned La Orotava Valley and Puerto de la Cruz, where this iconic luxury hotel in Tenerife stands today in the heart of Taoro Park.

With 135 years of heritage, Gran Hotel Taoro was a privileged retreat for European royalty and aristocracy, attracted by the benevolent and therapeutic climate of Puerto de la Cruz.

Today, the hotel blends the splendour of its past with the comforts of the 21st century.

With panoramic views of the Atlantic, Teide, and its majestic French garden, the 199 rooms and suites delight the senses and promise a visually captivating experience from every angle.

PERSONALITIES WHO MARKED THE HISTORY OF GRAN HOTEL TAORO

Founded by British and German visionaries in the 19th century, Gran Hotel Taoro, nestled in the iconic Taoro Park in Tenerife, was the favourite place for distinguished figures from history, such as King Alfonso XIII and the Duke of Kent.

However, the most prominent figure was celebrated writer Agatha Christie, who found inspiration for works such as The Mystery of the Blue Train and the short story “The Man from the Sea” in the hotel and scenery of Tenerife.

This haven of tranquillity and natural beauty was key to her creative process, establishing Gran Hotel Taoro as a historic hotel in Tenerife where imagination and elegance meet.

Today, Gran Hotel Taoro keeps that legacy alive by inviting you to discover a setting where history and sophistication combine and by offering a unique and timeless experience.
